Black flakes

I was wondering what these black flakes were gathering in my engin bay . I cleans them out once and more are back . When it is dry they feel like think paper pieces. Any ideas ?

it also looks like there's some black electrical tape in your engine compartment - that flakes apart at some point too

the exhaust isnt..... right near the exhaust port in the head will still get hot enough to burn off the paint. Check the underside of your manifolds, and I bet you find the source

The pulleys, ps pump and y pipe are painted black

Maybe it's not paint, but it looks like paint. It might not be paint but another substance that resembles paint. It's definitely in the bilge though

Yeah , I looked all over but didn’t see anything . I bagged up some of it to show the mechanic . Thank you for the advice .

A couple questions- what boat and motor is it? How long have you had the boat? Did it just suddenly or recently start doing this? Suggest you clean the area thoroughly and then run the boat in neutral while observing the engine compartment to see if you can determine where it’s coming from.

Got any black foam insulation or flotation material? A possibility would be something rubbing on the above scraping off chips.

It's difficult to tell the thickness of the flakes in the pictures. Are they very thin like paint or thicker maybe fan belt or rubber hose crumbs?

I bout the boat a couple of months ago . It had a 4.3 volva penta . So I don't know if it's something new .

It feels like a paper ish, slight rubber feel . It rips like paper. But the half circle piece has me kinda worried .
