black carpet?

Re: black carpet?

Haha, in Canada I doubt you will have the too hot to step on situation unless you are in the last two days of August :D

I had a choice when I ordered my new Lund. I opted for the grey vinyl flooring and it's non slip when wet cause of the raised pattern. The rest of the boat lockers, bow platform etc is carpeted and has held up very well over the last 5 years.

If I really wanted carpeting I would have opted for the vinyl floor and got the optional snap in grey carpet. But I've seen what carpet looks like in a few years in other boats.

I don't think the color would make much of a difference, anything on the dark side will be hot under bare feet. Light colors are going to show dirt and stains too but dark colors are going to show everything.

Think about getting vinyl for everyday use and then just snap down a carpet for those times you want to just leisurely cruise around. This gives you the best of both world's.

And as others have noted, I would only use marine grade carpet.

I think you're looking at the wrong side of the issue. You're too worried about the color and not the fact that you're not using marine rated carpet. I have had carpet in my boats and love it. Some hate it. It's up to you to decide and everyone else's thoughts on whether or not to carpet a boat don'tmean a thing.

I had one boat with non-marine light grey carpet and it was great...for the first year. Got too hot, water destroyed the backing, doesn't hold up under the abuse, etc. My current boat has light tan marine carpet in the cockpit and bakes in the Florida sun. Not hot, holds up great, easily removed and cleaned. Look at the quality of the carpet first and the color second.

Re: black carpet?

i think its gross to keep that carpet for more than a season. I would prefer to replace every season. plus i only paid 400$ for th boat motor and trailer.. seems like big waste to put 400$ of carpet in it lol I'm not driving anything fancy like you fireman. Sometimes you have to look at what would work for you and not put 400$ of wasted money into your moat like you recommend. This boat is stored in a garage 24/7 and will see very little rain, so i just dont have the money to waste like some people. could you imagine buying marin carpet every year for you boat? thats just crazy talk. the carpet i have is overkill for what i need lol

oh and just to fill you in, the question was never if i should recarpet my boat.. it was about if black or dark colors would be too hot for my feet.

im sure you just didnt take the time to read before you gave your input.. maybe you should re read it :)

No need to reread...I was aware of what the topic was. I was just mentioning it for the fact that there will soon be a dozen or more comments about what a rotten idea carpet in a boat is. There are many, many threads here about this issue and the sides seem to be split, that's all.....

As far as keeping it for more than a season, I'm not sure why that would be gross:confused:. But, that's your boat and if you want to replace every season, that's your call. I only have $400 invested in my cockpit carpet and it's on the 4th or 5th season now. Better savings in my opinion, but whatever...

Of course, if you fish and get blood, bait, and guts on the rug, I understand replacing every season. The only fish on my boat go on the grill :)

So now your just going to be a Jack-A**!?!?

Fireman gave you sound advice, Just like he does to most people! Just because it doesn't equal what you want for your cheap boat doesn't mean it was rude for him to say what he said. You came here looking for advice on "color" and still didn't listen to anything anyone said about color because you bought a dark blue color.

You might as well went with black, because the dark blue will have all the issues that the black would have had as stated in multiple posts from multiple people here on your thread.

Ultimately in the end it is your boat and your choice on what to put in it, but to be rude is just not the way of things in most these forums on iboats.

Hope this was the last advice about anything you need here on this forum. Good luck and enjoy your hot carpet. ;) Maybe living in Canada you won't have the heat issues. Again, good luck and fair well.

Re: black carpet?

^^^^^^ Hahaaa. We need the thick pile carpet in Canada so we don't dull the blades of our ice skates when we get in the boat
Thats funny right there !

Fish hooks get stuck in regular carpet.

Generally don't get stuck in marine carpet.
Excellent point, dats' cuz' alot of -regular- carpet is closed loop pile. Make sure what ever carpet isn't closed loop, go for cut pile. With this style, every loop is cut, creating individual strands. No loops for hooks to grab.:)

Black carpet is fine . Ya just gotta boat in the shade...:p

Re: black carpet?

well my bimini top covers all of the carpet :) and yes.. lots of fish blood involved inside my boat.. thats gross to keep re using blood staind carpet.

criscraft 254.. you are the only rude person that ive seen on here as of yet. I didnt think that fireman understood what i was asking.. so i told him. If you didnt like what i said.. then go shed a tear by yourself in your boat. or just get back on your high horse and go bug someone else lol and yes, i did listen to the advise... living in canada and having a bimini top on my boat... i made the right choice.. thanks to people on here.. even though you dont think so.

dont want to sound like a jack a** but i really dont think you are taking time to understand what you are reading. maybe you should slow down a bit and take your time? either way, not trying to **** people off.. sometimes its hard to know where people are coming from when you are not face to face with them.

hope that didnt offend you criscraft, but i thought it had to be said.

I am only on here to get advise or hear other people experiences before i go out and spend money a lot of money on things because im poor.. I considered everything that was said, and still feel i made the right choice.

anyways, thanks for all the help,

and sorry if i offend you fireman.. i didnt mean it to come out like that.. although i only think criscraft got offended lol.. why? no one knows.
