Not all biminis are inexpensive or easy to get. My camper enclosure for the Formula is around 3k with all the eissenglass and zip up screen windows. I can't just go order another bimini. It has to go out to a custom canvas shop to be rebuilt. I currently have both biminis recovered with blue sharkskin I cut from extra boat covers sitting in the house waiting to go out for stitching.

Try 1/2" or 3/4" aluminum electrical condut with a pipe bender. Local muffler shop could bend it in a jiffy. Cover with shark skin or sunbrella. On projects like this your time means nothing. Your pay is the satifaction in a well done job and bragging rights.

I saw a home-made PVC/tarp rig this summer. Looked like a floating lemonade stand.

Anything homemade is not likely to handle wind including from running the boat.

Beach umbrella in a rod holder is the best shortcut.
