The little clips might be bad. I had one that got stuck on my 2011 Q7ssi about a month after I got it. I couldn't remove the bar at all because although the clip button would move, it wouldn't move up enough to release. The dealer had to replace it. He said that they occasionally fail in ways like that, although it wasn't frequent. The spring in yours may be weak/broken, preventing the licking button (if they are like mine in design) from springing down and locking them. Just a thought.
