bilge pump

yes i just installed a bilge pump on my boat today,i was wondering if a 2 way switch,on&off..or do i need a 3 way??? help!!!!

todd,<br /><br />It all depends on how you want to use it. A regualr on/off is fine if you only want manual operation.<br /><br />Otherwise, a on/off/on would be needed to use an automatic float switch.

If you have an automatic bilge pump, or a float switch you can use the on/off switch to control the manual operation. On would be manual on and off would be manual off but auto on.

The norm for a bilge pump switch is 3-way; left position is auto (for use with a float switch/sensor), center position is all off, right position is manual on. Note; the auto position is ‘maintained’ … the switch stays flipped to the left, but the manual positions is ‘momentary’ … spring loaded and flips back to the center off position when you let go of it. That said, people install the switches in whatever orientation up/down, etc.
