Hey Skinny, that must be the same one I saw. I couldn't remember where I saw it, only that it contained a loop. What part of CA do you hail from?

Hello NuBoaterR,<br />I live 4 miles west of the Sacramento River outside of Corning, Tehama county. I cross Woodson bridge twice a day commuting to Chico and back again.

I'm gonna call that the "Crab Bait Method" and I'm sure that the first time I get to use it, people will wonder what the heck I'm talking about! :D

hiya,,,<br /> lots of good ideas here, hey JB I like the ambisol trick, thought I was the only one that knew that, as fer getting the hook out, cuy the eye and pull it on out, is the best method I have found thus far, ifin ya dont, go to doc, he can do it, and if all else fails, get drunk and let a buddy opperate on ya,LOL

What if the hook only goes in part way.....I dang sure don't want to push the thing in further.<br /><br />My main goal is to get it out....not in  <br /><br /> If i get drunk and my fishen buddy comes at me with the knife and strings.......oh man. Ever seen the movie "drunken master" <br /><br />A rabid water buffalo with a bucket of blood strapped to his nuts, while surrounded by sharks, would rather swim to shore than get in my boat. <br /><br /> Hidden dragon style mixed with Drunken master style......thats bad voo-doo  <br /><br />DrunkenSicopathWood :D

derwood - they gotta come up with a new technique on this deal, cauz there won't be any pushing the eye down to the skin, or cutting shanks, or anything else like that. maybe the hook-removal manual should have a little exception clause for this that says 'and in this case crush lure and plan on having new body piercing with hook style earrings for life'<br /><br />might be fun at the airport xray machine, when you have to showem... and a fun conversation topic at the next party :D

I'm with Russell. I've been removing barbs since my kids started fishing with me. Haven't noticed a difference. It's safer, makes catch and release easier, and in fact I've read that it actually makes hooking the fish easier (hook with barb takes more pressure to set the hook). I haven't had to remove any hooks yet, but it gives me more peice of mind should the little guy snag himself...or worse yet, ME.

crab bait,<br /><br />that method does work. I found out the hard way. Thrashing Bass + Gamagasu Trebel Hook= not good.<br /><br />I was trying to lip a bass and when i got a hold of it, it started thrashing. Well needless to say, I had two fingers on one set of hooks and a mad bass on the other set. Now the bass is still thrashing with my fingers hooked also. I had to get the bass of first with only one hand, Not Easy. With all the thrashing going on the hooks were burried deep (up to the bend in the shank) with a little luck and plenty of pain the method worked.<br /><br />Tight Lines and (mabe not in this case) Solid Hooksets :D

Not to discourage the use of a good method of hook removal but it will not work on ears or other pieces of very flexible or loose skin IE nuts. It only works on places that the hook can not tug around or pull out of shape. There are not too many places you can't use the "Crabbait" method but you would do better pushing a hook through your ear or leaving it in till you can get medical attention that ripping half your ear out trying this method.
