Best way to improve a short vintage swim ladder

On my last outing, we had a bit of a situation where one of our passengers wanted to swim but was unable to get back into the boat due to the woefully short factory swim ladder (1976 Starcraft Montego):

I'd like to mitigate this on future outings but would also like to preserve the vintage aesthetics of said boat. Ideally with something that'll hold my weight (350lbs last I checked, oink!!!). Bonus points if it also works on the shore as my wife can't climb into my boat when it's trailered (trailer is tall and narrow).

Mine is similar. The difference is mine has a swing down section on the bottom.

Buy a length of stainless chain and some quick clips and a sturdy board . Attach board to chain. Clip to rail. Not perfect but it’ll get someone in
