Best Way To Bring Up Faded Hull Color?

Have an older hull, mostly white but with a broad red swipe from bow to stern that's faded, more so in some places than others. (Red must be the worst color to maintain in a sunny environment!). Is there a way to restore the luster? Or at least make it consistent? Any advice appreciated!

Some polishes have a gentle abrasive in them which will help remove the surface haze, but they won't even out the color. Once dark colors fade, they stay that way
I remember a thread from last year in which some people said Vaseline would bring back the luster. I tried it - it did look better for a while, but didn't last long.

I tried Nu Finish, which did nothing for the color, but will protect the fade, I assume. Compounding worth the agg?
