I just got stranded because of water in my gas and want to put in a water separator. What is the best model to use? Do I still need to keep the plastic filter between the pump and carbs?

Racor 23299-10 Fuel Filter SNAPP Water Separator Just installed one of these on my boat. Liked it because I have limited space in the bilge area and it is very easy to replace. No o-rings to leak and has the drain on the bottom. You just snap it out and replace the whole unit. I removed the clear plastic filter between pump and carbs but thinking about putting it back so I can see the gas going through it for fuel diagnosis. Have had zero problems with this filter.

If you already have a filter head, just swap out the existing fuel filter for a "B32" series spin-on filter.

You will need the clear bottom the first time, but from there on out you replace the filter can only

I got the Racor 320R-RAC-01
Probably don’t want to hear this after the fact but……while you have to buy a Mercury or OMC “style” filter head separately, the B32 series filters are sized (threaded) to fit the very popular OEM Mercury (11/16”- 16) and OMC (1”-12) filter heads. Allows you to substitute an OEM filter or equivalent in a pinch.

I’m contrast, the 320R filter head (1”-14) is proprietary. Fits Racor filters only.

The best is usually the most expensive.
I'd buy one with the see through base. It has a drain to get water out.
