Looking for a good tube for grandkids, and also for the big kids. Looking at 2 person "Sling Shot", anything better? Grandkids are 2-6 years old, have 89 Larson with 3.0 inboard

Need more info.....How old are the grandkids, what are you towing with, are you only going to tow one person at a time, or put two or three people on a tube at once..
You have LOTS of options though.:)
I just spent the weekend looking at the almost limitless variations and we'll probably end up with more than one.

With my 3 kids(7,5,3) we just bought the patriot warbird 2. It is a 2 person tube. You can pull it 2 ways, one kids sit with a backrest, then turn it around and you have a chariot style ride.

We have had tons of different tubes. The kids seem to like the ones that you set up on. instead of down in. My kids are 12 and 15 and like more action now, when you set down in a tube you tend to get pounded on your backside. When you have 8-10" of air between you and the wake it softens the blow. That being said the higher you set the bigger chance of tipping over, but if you get one that is wider that won't be a problem unless you want it to be...

We have the airhead revolution. Its a 2 person tube you lay on, you can have it spin as its being pulled or rig it to not spin. You can find a video for it on youtube. My kids and their friends love it.

Don't know if you decided yet - but the two most popular are the Super Mable by Sportsstuff, and the Big Slice by Airhead. Both are good tubes, for kids and adults.

I like the airhead big slice because the kids (7-11 yo) can get back on it in the water. some of the other tubes seem to be too tall and they could not pull themselves up. We would have to get them back in the boat and lower them onto the tubes. Sometimes it will submarine on them when taking off, but they just have to stay back on it and if works fine.

What happened to a good black rubber tuber with a ski row tied around it? We rode those all day as kids and did some amazing things on them. Never even lost a finger when the rope tightened up around the tube......

Too many of them have a tendency to submarine. I found the "Body Glove" make to be ok as far as this issue is concerned. I also got an "Air Head" and it constantly wants to go under.

We were new to tubing last year. I purchased a Bass Pro Shops Tsunami 76" diameter tube, esetially a flat disc with handles. The best thing about it is that I can put three kids on it at once and they have a blast. This tube is currently on sale, $139 and seems to be very durable. We used it a lot last year and it is ready to go again this year.

obrein super screamer is a blast. handles to get back on it when you are in the water and soft padding on the tube where your knees and elbows are and underneath the handles. 72" diameter so plenty of room for 1 or 2

For older kids try a sportsstuff doable (Slalom Jockey). It's a steerable one or two person tube. Very easy to board from the water.

We had a blast on it this weekend. By leaning to one side or the other the rider can steer the tube. He can also make it rotate 360 degrees. I had one rider going backwards for a while.

It's also very easy from a driver's perspective. I just drive a straight line and the rider makes his own fun by slaloming through the wake.

Takes me back. The first tube I remember was from a DC-9. It was big, but more importantly, the valve stem stuck out about 8 inches. Man that would scratch the you-know-what out of you if you started with it pointing up or if you wiped out the wrong way. We also had a "surf Board" that was basically a flat board that was maybe 30 inches wide and 5' long. That thing could seriously hurt you as well. Kids today just have it to cushy.

Definitely get the War Bird. It can be towed front or back. I guarantee it

Yeah a 40 lb kid on a Manta would not be good.

Look for one that the small ones can sit in a cubby or lowered cavity so there is less worry abotu them fallingout. Plus it will work will the older kids. Usually those you can lay on as well and fight to stay on. The new discs are cool too. Low center of gravity makes staying on easier but those kids are too young to have to hold on to stay on.
