Excellent excellent post! I couldnt agree more if I had posted this myself. The first house I bought had a 14% mortgage thanks to Carter. RR was undoubtably the best of my lifetime.

I was born in JFK's era, so the best US president in my lifetime so far, would have to be Ronald Reagan.

Re: Best President in Your Lifetime?

while I will agree that WWII did a lot for the country economically the US was well on its way out of the depression of 29 and mostly under the leadership of FDR and the howling of congress.
some of the greatest public works ever accomplished were done under his auspices.
i dont agree with all his policies and he did every thing he could to get us into WWII short of pooping down tojo's throat. but even after pearl congress would not allow a declaration of war against germany, lucky for him Hitler did it all by himself.
for those taht enjoy the wright brothers monument and the dune line that stretches from the VA border to hatteras can thank FDR for creating the artificial dunes and planting the grass on the monument hill and the trees behind it to hold it there.
but i dont think he was great, he did well but , maybe had he not been so sick in 45 it would have been better or had he turned the presidency over to truman in late 44 but he did not so it kinda hurt the US.
dont get started on bloody money from the kennedy or bush families both were crooks and one profited in WWII by trading steel and war materiels to the Nazi's until after the war was over. the other was just a crook. about the same in my book. one was convicted of trading with the nazis and had some assests stripped in the late forties the other financed his kids political carreers.
maybe one day in my life I will get to vote for someone that will be great. so far its been a wash.
I seem to remember an incident with poor RR where he finally had to apologize on TV for crimminal acts and fired most his staff, not my idea of a great president just a politically shewd one.

Re: Best President in Your Lifetime?

So sorry I didn't stick with the topic....But since I am already a trangressor..... So, the "New Deal" had nothing to do with the nations economic recovery? WW2 is solely responsible for that? No...I think that FDR's "progressive agenda" helped out quite a bit until WWII decided to show up & "bail us out'. Punch in "FDR" & go to the official White House site and see what it says.....Actually the first highway legislation was enacted during Woodrow Wilson's Presidency....What I meant to say was....."National System of Interstate Highways", which was legislation that was passed during FDR's administration the forerunner of Ike's accomplishment.....Poor wording on my part.....
FDR was the "commander in chief" during WWII,(I think)......No one can single-handedly win a world war.....But he did everything he could, while "maintaining" "neutrality".....Japan attacked us & Hitler declared war.....We were "neutral" until Japan & Germany acted...U.S. forces incurred approximately 142,000 casualties in Korea....The fighting started when the north crossed the 38th parallel....The fighting see-sawed north & south until we ended up at where? The 38th parallel ! & we are still dealing with North Korea's b.s......So I take that statement back....The "Korean Conflict" was not a "draw"....It was a.... Loss!
With at least 50,000 dead & I don't know how many wounded & Agent Oranged......& Viet Nam is a Communist country to this day......So, in my book = LOSS!
BTW, does Cuba count?
I guess I'm saying that FDR did alot of good things for this country, He got elected four times....I don't think there were any recounts...So someone (alot of people) at the time thought he was doing a good job.
Those who cannot see the value of FDR's tenure, a'int too bright.....IMHO
Wow! I said all of that without one Republican bash.....That's because I think "Uncle Ronnie" did some good things.....I just can't remember any of them....His admin. did alot of crappy things that I do remember....That doesn't make him a bad president, but it doesn't make him the greatest either, IMHO....
For those who would choose to insult me on a personal level. :p :p :p :p :p
Stay in the land of "Corn & Cow Chips" & quit smoking them thar chips ;) .....JK

Wow, you don't remember being able to finance that new boat at less than 18% interest? Or that your income taxes went WAY down. (42% was top bracket wasn't it? Went down to 33%, I think. Forgive me, I earned no income then.) Or wait, your kids didn't tell you about being able to stop doing nuclear attack drills at school? Yeah, i guess those things can just slip your mind. After all you had grunge coming on out there, that was way more important! :D

Re: Best President in Your Lifetime?

I will lay off the personal atacks....Sort of .... .I have never owned a new boat....I always wait for the idiots that finance them to wait until they break & can't fix them & can't pay the payments or afford the repair bill.

Cuba started & ended their change to Communism while the Viet Nam war was in it's fledgling stages....The Viet Nam war was already on when Castro took power.....We only had observers & had not committed any "Official" troops yet...But we were there...... I don't remember trembling at the thought of a 'Nuclear Holocaust" when I was a kid....And I grew up pretty close to N.Y.C....I do remember the funny yellow things on the wall at school & the bus driver (Ed Dragon), his real name,...(ISYN) When from his stogey clenching teeth said, "If you see a very bright flash in the sky come out of nowhere, put your head between your knees & kiss your *** goodbye! Ed was a marine who was in Korea, btw.....

I think you will be "safe" when Russia, who has cast off the stranglehold of Communism & the "Red chinese" unload their arsenals on us...

Saddam will look like "Curly" from the "Three Stooges" then......

I don't think you have much to worry about if your cornfields are not hiding WMD though....

Though "Uncle Ronnie", "single handedly" spanked the "big bear".....Well, maybe "Bonzo" helped....Russia is our "friend" for now & the Chinese brand of Communism is alive & well...So we will see how that plays out.... :D

I know the tax rate has been lowered....The rich get richer & the poor get to work harder.... ;)

We don't grow poppies here.....But we could!....I'll lay off the heroin ....If you lay off the "corn squeezin's"..... :p

I'll be happy to stay out here...Every time I drive through "ILL"inois it smells like cow Sh!t! :(

Good day, MR. T....... :)

Re: Best President in Your Lifetime?

Wow, FedEx really did write that commercial about you!

The only error I will point out, cause I don't have time for all of them, is that Illinois doesn't have that many cows. The land is too valuable to waste on grazing animals. It's all corn & soybeans, here, not cows. Learn a little about geography and industry some time.

At this point I say adieu to you, cause if you didn't learn it in 18 years of public education, I can't teach it to you in 2 minutes spurts.

Back on point here, if there was an actual poll on this topic, you'd all see that Ronald Wilson Reagan is by far the overwhelming choice.

You're probably right! I just thought I couldn't see the cows because of the corn...I assumed they were there because I smelled them....

R.I.P Ronnie!

JK
