Best President in Your Lifetime?

Just curious ... Who would you say was the best president in your lifetime, or at least in your memory?

I was born before JFK (during Eisenhower), but the only thing I remember was the funeral. I'd rate him as best, but I really don't have enough first-hand memories to count him.

I'd have to say Ford was the best president we never elected, and Carter was an honorable president. In fact I'd give both of them high marks for bringing Honor to the Presidency. All of the others in my memory banks would have a difficult time in the "Honorable" category. But neither would qualify as "best".

I'm afraid I'm still waiting for a "best" president in my lifetime. Maybe it'll be President McCain.

Here's a toughie ... who was prez when you were born? That'll give us a point of reference, and probably make you do a little homework. ;)

I'd have to go for Franklin Roosevelt or Harry Truman...but then I don't remember that much about them. ;)

Best President in my lifetime would be Ronald Regan.

FDR was Pres. when I was born. He certainly faced the toughest challenges.

Harry Truman was probably the most no-nonsense President.

Dwight Eisenhower got the most done with the least fuss.

JFK was only fair, but the most charismatic. He was the world's and the media's darling.

LBJ was the most effective at getting his favorite legislation passed and the most courageous on liberty and civil rights.

Nixon was very good at foreign affairs, but paranoid.

Ford was a good caretaker.

Carter was/is the most decent and kind President.

Reagan was the best president of my lifetime.

Bush the elder would have been better appreciated if he hadn't come on in Reagan's shadow. We expected too much.

Clinton was/is probably the smartest and the horniest President we ever had.

Bush the younger has made the most noise to accomplish the least and attracted the most vicious hate campaign of my lifetime.

I was born around the same time as you (Ike was CiC).
Ford was honest, as was Carter. Carter was the worse president in my lifetime only because of his decisions...But he was indeed, honorable.
Renaldus Magnus (Ronald Regan) was the best president in my lifetime.
Of all 43 of them, Regan was my favorite.

I was born when Nixon was president... but even if I had been born in 1900, I can't imagine my answer would change, and I can't see it ever changing:

Ronald Wilson Reagan

I'll rethink my choice and call Ronald Reagan the best since I've been around hands down. ;)

Born during Eisenhower administration.

My personal economy improved the most during the Clinton years.

But I think Reagan was better at being president than any of the others.

Good question. Reagan would be my choice for my best all around Pres. I also believe, as many here have stated, that Clinton was much better than given credit for. Clinton was not far behind Reagan.

Gotta vote for Reagan. I was trying not to, but only to be different.

JB,

Not sure it takes smarts to be a salesman, but considering that's what I am, maybe . . . hmmmmm. I am VERY disappointed in both Carter and Clinton for openly criticising the sitting President. That was always considered hands off in the past. But if you hate somebody enough I guess it's OK . . .

Reagan for winning the cold war.
Clinton had it easy, he was prez during a great economic boom that he had nothing to do with, I give him credit for not screwing that up. He did shame the office and for that shouldn't be considered as a great president.
Don't remember Ford or Carter. Dubya has had a extremely difficult presidency.

Ronald Reagan was America Personified. He will be in the pantheon of greats till the end of this Glorious Experiment. I do also admire FDR although he started the swing of the pendulum of an overbearing federal government. I don't think he really intended to initiate the march that has occurred. I also do not think that he had the diabolical, ideological quest for socialist power that today's left has.
