I have a 20 footer that the Florida sun has taken its toll on. It is white and the paint has become chalky. I dont want to spend alot on paint because I fish around old bridge pilings and oyster rocks alot. I just want my boat to
look cleaner and possibly glossy again. I would also like to find a paint that
can be rolled on.

Has anyone had any experience with roll on paint verses spray on? I am doing
the entire hull topside and bottom side.

Check on a product called Poli-glow. It goes on over the gelcoat and gives a great shine. Heck of a lot easier and cheaper than paint especially if you're just going to scratch it up again....

Is the current finish paint or gel coat, it makes a difference.

I dont know. How can I tell by looking at it? It is the factory finish so I assume its gel coat.

have you tried the various rubbing, polishing compounds? That would be my first choice for a chalky surface of any sort. Before you do, research the various types so you progress properly. But in general, you'd start with a rubbing compound and then do a polishing compound.

Yes, try buffing it with a coarse compound first, if it needs more work try some 600 grit sand paper and buff it again. Just try a small area to see what it takes to get it looking good, sometimes it's easy and sometimes it requires a little work, but's far less money and work that repainting.
