Type A-1 marine hose has to be fireproof for at least 2-1/2 minutes by a direct flame while filled with gasoline and should be used under decks or in inaccessible places. It is also required for all inboard engines. The type B-1 is OK for exposed areas such as from the transom to the outboard.

The " -15 " on the hose means that it is EPA approved for evaporative emissions and is required on all boats and engines built since about 2010.

That was clear and very helpful.

Whenever I find that grey line, I throw it in the garbage, no matter its age. It is trouble waiting to happen.

Thats it, just ordered one. Thanks for the help guys. We're going out on the ocean and don't want to screw around with crappy parts.

For real fun, though, try the grey line when it's cold outside (below about 35 degrees). It's addictive like popping bubble wrap----if you try to flex it you can snap it into little pieces every time.
I hate the stuff, and totally agree with the comment about the clear liner getting brittle---seen it lots of times.
INteresting thread.
