In your opinion, what do you think is the best fishing line? Please keep all factors in mind. Sensibility, line memory, castability, knot strength...etc
Please also include the best braid line. Thank you.

My favorite is the Pline CXX, It has very good tensile strength, and is stronger line than other brands rated the same.

I tend to use the line with the smallest diameter and the highest strength in a given line class.

Casting:
Mono= Sufix Tritantium Plus

Trolling:
Mono = Sufix Superior
Trolling = Power Pro

Vertical Jigging:
Braid = Sufix Performance braid

One that has all the desirable characteristics and cost a penny per yard. That's the best. :D

Kidding aside, it's really application specific. No one line is the best hand down. For an all purpose line I really like Berkley 100% fluoro.

I completly switched over to Seaquar INVIZX fluorocarbon for everything but heavy vegetation when i use Daiwa Samurai Braid. The fluro is the best i found for casting and sensitivity.

Depending on the useage, Power Pro or Berkeley Big Game, both made in the USA and never a problem with either one.

Re: best fishing line?

i swear by triline in the red box for thinner line like 2lbs for trout, i like 10lbs for bass. on my baitcaster i like fireline crystal i hae found that 14 pound test is manageable, and strong(i can"t break it of if i try(polmar knot) , but i allways use cheap line as a backer; i spool up a little more then haft the reel with cheap stuff, then tie on the braid, push the knot to one side of the spool then add a thin layer of black tape(or the white tape that comes with some line) to lock down the cheap mono, this will stop the thinner line from cuting in to the backing mono. this way i save on the fireline (way over priced) and i can only birds nest so deep, also braid will stain and fray, so i can change out 40 or 50 yards at a time with out totaly respolling. powerpro was my goto braid befor i leaned how to use backer, now i can aforrd the fireline.

for river fishing i like biggame it streches a lot, but it is really tough

if i could only have one line it would be cheap *** tryline in the red box!!!!

Re: best fishing line?

For salmon and steelhead I used to use braided line like Tuf-Line XP exclusively. I discovered two years ago that braided has one very serious drawback- it absorbs water. Not a problem for summer Chinooks, but wading and drifting for the winter steelhead in sub-zero temperatures, you end up having difficulty casting because the line on the reel freezes to it's self... or your rod eyelets freeze up because of the excess moisture being reeled back in. My fly fishing line does the same thing. I now keep a reel with 10lb P-line for the winter.

For most other species I mostly fly fish, but I do pack around a little ultra-light spinning rod for bass, trout, carp, etc.. On that one I keep 4lb Trilene. Never had an issue with the line. I burned up a reel with a 25 lb carp, and stretched the line quite a bit, but it didn't break. Stayed stretched though, and had to be replaced.

I think it was Bill Dance that said to spray Pam cooking oil on the line and eyelets. It helps with the line freezing problem. I haven't tried it cuz I don't do enough fishing in those conditions.

I cannot imagine the mess you would have with cutting oil dripping off your line and guides. Silicon spray would be just as effective and not make such a mess.

The comment on spraying Pam cooking spray on the line and the guides, it is enviromentally friendly. We use it alot up on Lake of the Woods Ice fishing, works well and help keep the slip bobbers loose and not iced up.

I think I read WD-40 was made with fish oil ... would'nt it better than sillicone for this application ?

Re: best fishing line?

My favorite is Stren High vis Gold ... but it's not as flexible as Trilene and I dont know it they have a yellow colored line.

I would like to switch to braided line ... I use high vis yellow ... therefore which brand would make a line that the colors does not fade when in contact with water ? and would be the least water absorbant ? (sorry 2 questions in one)

I wouldn't use silicone spray, its about 95% solvent, often tricloroethane, really nasty stuff. I heard of guys using PAM ice fishing to keep the line from icing up, but I never tried it.
