Re: Best day of fishing you had!

Every time I get to go or have gone is the best day. If I am not fishing then it is a lousy day.

Re: Best day of fishing you had!

You married guys will appreciate this one. Last summer was our 14th anniversary and my wife and I went alone to a cabin up on lake of the woods. We had our honeymoon there years ago. Well, the lake was rough but she went fishing with me...2 out of three days!!! God I love that woman. She had never caught a walleye before and we killed em. The best part was, it was very rough and she was getting seasick, but I was not about to go in while they were biting! She hung in there like a trooper! Was a fantastic anniversary. Caught our limit both days. What a woman! Sick as hell but staying out there just cause she knows I am a fishing fanatic.

Re: Best day of fishing you had!

It's just a foggy memory to me ... The man who taught me how to fish rowed us around in a lake every summer evening. One evening I caught a Pickeral that turned out to be a lake record that held for two years. I remember yelling to my Dad that I had a big fish and I remember him lifting it into the boat. My Dad was so dam proud that his 5 year old had just caught this great fish. That was over 42 years ago and it was the best catch. My Dad reflected upon that for the rest of his life and I do every time I fish. He passed on 3 years ago but the greatest catch stays alive. I miss thise days.<br /><br />Bob

Some of my best days have been loading up on stripers or catching large sharks. But I always remember the day almost 30 years ago when me and two friends went to a place at Dyers Pond that we called the Honey Hole for some reason. We all just smoke the largemouth and the pickeral, caught well over the limit and some bass and pickeral in the 4 lb. range. And I still remember the lure we all used it was an Evans spinner with a clear sparkling diamond like blade.

Couple of springs ago. <br /><br />Adirondacks, NY.<br /><br />We were fishing some private lakes/ponds by canoe. Slow trolling for trout.<br /><br />Caught and released (5) Brookies all over 20" and healthy as could be. Absolutely beautiful fish.<br /><br />Perfect day. No one else on the lakes.

The best fishing day I ever have happen last Sunday when my 17 year old daughter went fishing with me. It wasn't a perfect day of fishing because it was windy and was drizzling a little. But having my daughter with me and seeing her having a good time catching a fish is the best fishing I have ever experienced...

Best day - surfcasting with my father a week before he died, and seeing him catch a huge snapper. His face lit up and he ran around like a boy with his first catch (this man has caught fish for 60+ years). Dad catches us all looking at him and grinning so he just stops and becomes our serious dad again. Boy that was great, it bought out the boy in the man for a moment, I've learnt to do it as well. My son loves to see that....<br />Ross

Re: Best day of fishing you had!

best day was the first of three days out in the broken group islands off the west coast of vancouver island fishing for winter springs we got out in sleety snotty weather Iwas using a rod on the boat that was already rigged up my buddy had to set his up. By the time he had his rod set up I had a fish in the boat and was fighting another. My buddy started dropping the downrigger to 90ft at 20 he was into a fish. All day non stop action It was unbeleiveable my hands were so cold I could hardly feel my reel. The next day was similar but not nearly as constant as the day prior. between three of us we kept our limit smallest 10lb biggest20 and must have released 150-200 fish for the two days sure has kept me going back. :D

Re: Best day of fishing you had!

awesome posts people.... this story won't even<br />compare to some of these heartwarmers, but here<br />goes:<br />13 yrs. old, our scout troop took a 50 mile<br />canoe trip through Alex Bay Canada. all the<br />food we had was discuting freeze dried meals<br />that everyone hated. one night I was washing<br />the "campers stew" at the waters edge and I<br />noticed that it was attracting some bullheads.<br />we grabbed a couple lines and landed about 10<br />6-8" fish. My dad, the scout leader was so proud<br />of me! we all had a 2nd dinner that night.<br />he passed on a few years back and I still think<br />about the excitment we felt over some stupid<br />little bullheads.

Re: Best day of fishing you had!

My greatest day of fishing was a few months ago on a small farm pond an hour or so north of Detroit. My 7 yr old son and I were out to share some time toghether, wet a few worms and hopefully get him a few bites to keep him interested. I can usually get him into a string of action from the panfish, but was having a tough go at it. It was getting to be late morning, a little hot, and as you can imagine the "when can we leave" was becoming more frequent. Well, I decided to try one more spot, promising him if we didn't get any bites in the next 30 minutes, we'd take off. I re-rigged him with nothing but a hook, split shot, and a big fat night crawler. He lowered it over the side and let it drop. It probably wasn't more than 15 seconds and something big was on. Turned out to be a nice fat crappie...probably the biggest fish he's caught. I'll never forget the joy on his face. Well a dozen crappie and a hour later, we decided it was time to go. I went home skunked, but his smile made it the best day of fishing I've ever had.

Fishing w/ my 3 yr old 6 fish! Lafayette! <br /><br />Just took my 3.5 yr . old son fishing at Layfayette Res. in 2 hrs. we caught 2 rainbows and 4 perch at 3 pm!! Best dang "quick" fishing we ever did and "his" first catch! Worm bits on small hooks on bottom w/ splishot at handicapped dock. He was blown away! Let the first one go(big mistake) 12" bow, wife berated me on that via cell phone as I forgot we were bbqing w/ neighbors tonight - I am so into catch and release. So we kept the next bow 8" and let the perch go - he reeled them up but I had to unhook them, he did play with the worms though and kinda watched the poles if they twitched - will have pics soon, He was so proud of himself!. I love taking my kids fishing! We'll be back tomorrow as our boat is out of action(w/ trailer) for a few more weeks. Heinz

Re: Best day of fishing you had!

I grew up living on a lake in N. Hillsborough County,Florida and I've literally caught thousands of BIG fish before I was 10 years old. Many once in a lifetime catches. <br />While in the service I met a California girl, another lucky, once in a lifetime catch. Twenty eight years ago I married her and raised a family here in her native California. <br />All these years I've been to busy to fish, working at a demanding career, paying bills, buying and making a home. Yet I knew one day I'd be rippin' fishes lips again.<br />Our three girls grew up and things eventually fell into place. We saved and managed to buy a new but modest boat a few months ago.<br />Like I mentioned before, in my youth I was a fishing expert and I wanted to teach my wife all I knew about the sport. <br />Since I've been out of it for years and all the way accross the country I had to find the fish and along with teaching my wife to tie knots and cast, it took a while. I patiently would quit fishing to untangle her many tangles, to unsnag her lures and explain and demonstate the casting abilities of her Okuma/Fenwick 6lb test spinning outfit.<br />We were pretty lucky that the Shad run was coming up on the Sacramento River at about the time she was mastering her casts. Daily we were on the river after work, catching and releasing fish. One of the first defining moments was after she successfully battled several shad, I could tell she had learned a great deal. <br />The best day fishing was about 2 weeks ago. We were at the river at sunup and we motored into a slough way off the river channel. <br />I had her pole fixed up with a Gitzit. I carefully poled up against the weeds. I whispered to her to cast at a snag that was 35-40 ft away. Her cast was perfect and I whispered again telling her so. I told her to let it sink to the bottom and start a slow lifting/lowering retrieve. As she did, WHAM! and she set the hook like a pro. Her first largemouth, a 4 pounder! We caught and released 17 largemouth before 10AM. Granted I was coaching her and giving her the best pockets but she managed another 4 pounder and several over 3, far outfishing me. When she turned to me with that beautiful smile and said "I LOOOOOOVE fishing!!", that was the best fishing day I ever had.......so far. <br />The Salmon are coming our way now and she went down on her own and bought both of us a couple of Stripper stamps also.<br />I'll be teaching her to backtroll this weekend. ;)

Re: Best day of fishing you had!

I grew up with a cousin. We are the same age. We hunted and fished together as kids. Then we went our separate ways to make our way in the world and to raise families. I retired at age 48 and a few months after that moved from the West Coast back here to South Central North Dakota. Unknow to me, Jim moved back here. We hooked up again and picked up our hunting and fishing. Last winter we holed up in an ice house and fished for a week eating what we caught. It was an easy time. It wasn't the fish that made it so, but the time together catching up on loves lived.<br /><br />In 2000 Jim went with me on my anual Elk trip to Colorado. November of 2001, we hunted deer here in North Dakota. I filled my tag, a doe, the last few minutes of the last day of the season. I did this deliberately. Jim didn't want another deer as his sons had filled tags and he had enough meat to last the winter.<br /><br />Eight days after the deer hunt, Jim's daughter called to tell me that he died. Suddenly. Young. Too ****ed young.<br /><br />I am convinced and nothing can change my mind, that the "best day fishing" has little to do with the place or the catch. The week Jim and I spent fishing through the ice will go down as a memory never to be forgotten not becasue of what we caught, but who were were with.<br /><br />Jim left a hole in my life but he also left memories; ****ed good memories.
