Guys,
Picked my trailer up today after not using it for 23 years. Needless to say I've got some work to do. I'm starting with rebuilding my bunks. I oboviously do not use the trailer often but need to pull the boat from the water to have some work done. What is a quality bunk carpet that I can get to redo my bunks? Thanks in advance.

Not sure I would put the “best” on a once in 23 year trailer…lol

Go to West Marine or any other marine supply store and buy "boat trailer bunk carpet". The easy answer is ebay, or a google of the "".

I bet any outdoor carpet would work. Bought 16" wide rolls at Home Depot (was super cheap) when I did new bunks. Lasted years.

This is for the side rails (?) the wood that guides the sides of the boat onto the trailer. Because they are visible and the boat is red and white, I'd like to get red carpet. That is what is on there now. I found: Boat Trailer Bunk Carpet - 36oz Forever Boat Bunk Carpet (12"W x 13'L, Red) Bunk" on Amazon for $50 per roll 12" x 13 ' I will need 2 rolls.
Do I need 36oz carpet? There is no weight pushing on the sides where this carpet will be. I have seen a lot of carpet at 16 oz / sq yrd.
I will use stainless steel staples and a staple gun. Do you also recommend adhesive? If so what brand?

I recently replaced my bunks (wood and all) and used the CE Smith bunk carpet from West Marine. I caught it while it was on sale, so it was comparable to ordering online and was able to pick up same day.

It seems to be very high quality and came in a 12' long roll that I needed for my 10' bunks.

Thanks but I'm hoping for red. The boat and trailer are red.
I see that the CE Smith bunk carpet is 16 oz / Sq yd. I will look for that weight. I'm going to see if I can track down CE Smith carpet somplace else that might have red. Thanks

Update I found this on Amazon:

Cuda Boat Trailer Bunk Carpet – RED 23oz 13Ft x 12In Premium Marine Carpet Premium Bunk Board Carpet for Boat Trailers, Boat Trailer Bunks, Boat Bunk Carpet, Bunk Carpet for Boat Trailers $40 each. I needed 2.

It is red. A little bit expensive but a top quality product
I will use this adhesive:

ROBERTS 6700-0 1 Quart, Indoor/Outdoor Carpet/Artificial Turf Adhesive $11.97

Question: Should I also treat the wood with a sealer like Thompsoms Water Seal? Could that interfere with the adheasive? Have any of you done this?

Thanks

I used plain old staples when re-doing my bunks. That and indoor/outdoor carpet from Value Home Center.

That's how FourWinns did it originally - staples, no adhesive.

I used staples as well just to hold in place, then went back over with galvanized roofing nails, they make ones with larger heads, they hold really well don't rust out
