Hello all,
I’ve recently noticed a faulty gasket in my 5.7 merc factory 2 barrel Carb. I’m going to just rebuild and clean the whole thing out. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on rebuild kits to stay away from or if there were superior ones out there. Thanks in advanced,
Leland.

if its a mercarb, get a mercruiser/mercury/qucksilver kit
if its a webber, get a mercruiser or a webber kit

The main thing is to make sure they use a Marine kit because some parts are definitely different, ie high flow inlet seats, HD accelerator pumps, etc. For Quadrajets the kits from Cliffs are superior

hard to say really but I think a kit I bought from BRP (for my OMC-Rochester Quadrajet) was actually made by Sierra! sometimes you can buy from several different vendors and you wind up with same thing.

the biggest thing in carb rebuilds is the cleaning, you need to really take your time with it and a can of compressed air does not really cut it, I used a little hot dog compressor, much better.

I have had really good experiences with mikes. I think his mercarb kits come with both styles of accelerator pumps and spring loaded or non spring loaded needle and seat. They also sell floats in brass and idle mixture screws if yours is balled up . Also helpful with phone and email tech support
