Best Brand Of Storage Cover???

Several years ago I had a Taylor Made storage cover for my first boat, used it for six or seven seasons, never had any issues with it. For my current boat I bought Westland with the Sharkskin material, but it does not do a good job of keeping rain water out. I have a support system that keeps the cover tented and last year I cleaned and applied some waterproofing to the cover, but the rain still gets in. Not sure if its through one of the seams or somewhere else.

Anyway, I'm done with this one and going to replace it...........what brands/materials are you fellas having good luck with?

I've had good luck with my Carver Industries cover. Wouldn't hesitate to go Taylor Made either. For mooring covered, I personally prefer a more waterproof and lighter material than Sunbrella. Sharkskin is good. It sounds like your cover is leaking at the seams.

Just looked at Carver's website.....is your cover material the Sun-Dura?

Yes, it's not acrylic, but I highly recommend it. It's probably 15 years old and only has one seam starting to pull out. I thought I'd have to replace it years ago, but it keeps kicking. I do have a sunbrella cockpit cover underneath too though, but the Carver cover is honestly pretty awesome and fits like a glove.

Thanks for the feedback........lots of options out there, narrowing them down but this looks like a good choice.

I had the sharkskin one and really liked it. Held up well and didn't let water in. It was used from around 2011 to 2015.

I got mine from Empire Covers. Very happy with it, completely water proof, adjustable straps, good fit. Had it through 4 winters and not showing any signs of wear. During the summer, I have a white Sunbrella boat 2.jpgboat 1.jpgone that I had custom made.

Keeping the cover clean, and well supported is key, no flapping in the wind are all critical to keep a cover in good working condition no matter what material it is made from. Have had sharkskin in the past with good results as well as other various materials, but they were all maintained. Actually, looking back, I don't remember having a bad one, when used as they were designed....

Yep nothing lasts forever, 4/5 years in the weather and covers start to crumble..sunbrella will last longer! Damn good stuff..

Any cover I have ever used for storage, I have additionally covered with a relatively cheap poly tarp.waterproof, ice proof and snow slides off of it. Any 600 denier storage cover will do the job but covering THAT cover with a cheap tarp is the hack and it works flawlessly!! Charlie

That is what is so aggravating with this one. I have a really good support system, built an entire structure out of PVC tubing that keeps the cover tented, it does not allow water to pool anywhere. I do not trailer this thing with the cover on, even though the manufacturer says it can be done. It stays covered during the week, but there is always water inside the boat when I uncover and get things ready for the weekend. I live in one of the rainiest areas of the country, which doesn't help matters but my old cover kept my last boat dry as a bone. There is a 5 year warranty on this one, I am halfway through and will receive 30% off a replacement.....but I don't see the point in spending any money on the same thing.

If I had gone 4 years before I had problems then it might not be as big of a deal, but 18 months in is when I first started having problems. Last summer I cleaned and retreated, which I never did with my original cover. That retreatment only lasted maybe 4-6 months, hard to say because I don't check on it regularly through the winter....no snow down here.

This is my tented frame to support the cockpit area, the stern end piece actually rests against the bimini bows when folded flat to retain the shape, there is also a center post I use for the bow area.Support.jpg

Pretty sure mine is a Carver...Sunbrella material, trailerable with strap kit. I alternate between it and my Chap snap-on bow/cockpit covers during summer months.

Winter - Shrinkwrap.

In reality, you might have to get out there in the rain and see where the water is comming in !! Easy to just blame it in the cover, but...mabey leaking some where else...worth climbing in there and looking, just to be
sure !!
