Old 27' Silverton it appears. Probably a mid 70s variant. Much less sought after than a 25 Bertram.

Thanks for the tip - I have checjed on the web and it really is a Silverton. looks like a `25 Cabin Cruiser from mid 70s. do you know why were they less sought after than a Bertram? Build quality, hull design?

do you happem to know anything about this hull - is it a planing hull, a semi-displacement etc...

thanks,
marko

That Silverton is a good boat. Very seaworthy. Bertrams built by the sportfishing icon, Richard Bertram, have been copied my many builders over the years. The name alone..Bertram..is a much sought after machine. Very few make it to the junk yard.

Our Penn Yan is sometimes thought to be a Bertram. She would be worth 10 times what she is if she were.

I'm sure there are lots of factual reasons the Bertrams are sought after, hull design, strength, etc... but I'm no expert and couldn't tell you the exacts. The truth is any of the older, and possibly even newer Silvertons are considered to be a mid tier boat, while an old Bertram is considered an upper tier. With that said, this is not my opinion, as my next boat will most likely be an older model Silverton.

The Bertram name has been associated with the beginings of modern powerboating, as well as fiberglass. They were considered the high end "battlewagons" of their time. Some people will go to great lengths to get and restore them. Silvertons don't have the same type of following, from what I have seen.

Hopefully none of this takes away your desire to possibly puchase the boat pictured. If theres potential there, and she suits you well, don't let the name stear you away.

Good luck.

Betrams are higher/more sought after because they're "Betrams". He started this design and lots of other folks copied it, and still do. Plus, Betrams are well built vessels, which is why you see so many of the older ones still cherished. Quality boat, quality built.
