Hi ,

I'm wondering if I have a bent prop shaft.

I have a newer BR w/the 4.3 engine and alpha one lower unit. Anyway I hit some earth in the middle of the lake at about 30 mph.

The boat had a 21 p alum prop that was only moderately bent and the nose cone (or gear case nose) looked like it just went into orbit, I refinished the gear case and it looked good after sanding and paint. The skeg wasn't really damaged w/the exception of paint...

Took the boat to the prop shop where the guy put a dial indicator on the prop shaft - at the base it's 5 1/2 thousands off and at the tip (actually on the spline) it's o nly 2.0 thousands out... He wasn't sure what the allowable distance is for a bent shaft???

Was wondering if anybody knows about the spec's on the shaft...

Thank you,

Welcome to iboats :) The spec. is: .005.....I wouldn't worry about that extra 1/2 though...As long as you don't feel any excess vibration, and your drive is not losing fluid, I would run it. Be sure to pressure test it when you do your maintenence or storage though.....If it is out of the water I would check it now, just because......JK
