French papers came out this morning with a leaked report from the French security services that, according to Saudi intelligence, Ben Laden died on August 23.The report said that he died of typhoid fever.
Maybe we hear more about this in the near future.

We can only hope this is true. It'll be interesting to see how his soldiers and the rest of his followers react to this news.

One report said that Chirac got the news on September 4th. I guess he's been trying to verify the information since then.

I too would like to see the body.

These rumors seem to serface every so often for some reason.

If it were true, you would think Bin Laden's followers would be in mourning and others would be dancing in the streets. You hear nothing about any of that.

Who knows, by next week he'll probably make another video just to squash our hopes again.:/

Re: Ben Laden dead??

Latest reports have him suffering from a waterborne illness. Could be Montezuma's Revenge. I guess nobody told him not to drink the water. ;)

If he dies in battle, he'll be a Martyr and you'll hear about it. If he dies from disease, he'll be reported as having died in battle and still be proclaimed a Martyr. If he cowers in a cave and dies of starvation, well you can see where I'm going with this. If he's dead, his followers would have said so by now. But the clock is ticking one way or another.

The story is probably a ruse to get him to show his face and hopefully expose his wherabouts somewhere in the tape. Clues.

Show me the carcus! He has been a carcus since this mess has started. We just have'nt known where his carcus was hiding. I hope this is not propaganda to give us a reason to turn tail and run. I believe in finishing what you start. It may have started wrong, but, we are in to deep and we don't need another Viet Nam finish to this situation. It is propaganda until his carcus shows up.:|

Re: Ben Laden dead??

As far as Bin Laden becoming a martyr is concerned. You are probably wrong.
Ben Laden is part of a saudi moslem sect that buries its dead in unmarked graves. The only thing showing that there is a grave are a few stones so noboby will walk over the grave ,at least for a few years. This also will make it hard to verify his demise.
It is the belief of this sect that flesh is only a tool of the spirit and the spirit will continue its task through the flesh of others.
The sect carries on with the deep desert bedouin traditions.

I have a feeling that when that POS goes to Allah there will be a reaction from his followers that will be big news. They won't be able to control themselves. It'll be real big news. Hopefully they will want to join him and pull a mass suicide at his grave site. Well, I can dream!

This calls to mind the old saw..."The devil you know may be better than the devil you don't know."

If SBL has gone belly up, what happens next? What whack job will detonate who-knows-what who-knows-where just to make his presence known?

I think we are at war with a tactic--terror--much more so than with an individual.

Re: Ben Laden dead??

We are at war with a belief. How do you change that? This problem has been here for centuries. Problem now is that technology has entered the equation...along with funding enabling the believers to escalate their activities. Sad to say but it doesn't appear there will ever be a peaceful solution to this problem. It will take much more then what a feel good society will dish out .
Maybe if the terrorists destroy everything they want to when they want to ASAP, the world leaders will get tough enough to do what needs to be done. Collateral damage is a sad reality of war. There just might have to be alot of it to end this.
Remember how WWII ended? There was an enemy that was going to fight till the last person died. They changed their minds. It was a swift destructive move that motivated them, one and all. I guess that wasn't the war to end all wars. No one figured on under developed countries when that was said. I guess they were never perceived as a threat. Well it's in our face now.Evolve or become extinct. This needs a swift end.

Who cares... Bin Laden did not invent terrorism, and he is only a small part of a large problem. There are untold amounts of people ready to take Bin Ladens place. Terrorism will not end just because Bin Laden is dead....

I am in complete agreement with Firestar.
If nothing else, it will be a great start.
