I just removed mine from my bravo 3. If it is the same type of cable it has a nut on the other side of the bell housing. It is fixed so there is no removing it. Pull the cable out of the back of the bell housing and then be sure that all the parts are removed from the cable on the other side of the transom. they all unscrew or pull off. Just look at this diagram,

part number 14 comes off as well as the first part of part number 10 ie the thing that the nut and the adjustment thing is on.
it should just pull out with a few good yanks then.
oh there is a clamp on the bellows that needs to be removed. IT is a crimp style so you'll need to replace it. My manual says to be sure not to flatten it cuz it will cause water to leak in.

whats the trick to getting the shift cable to come out? I unbolted it from the engine. But it wont pull out of the back? Do I have to take apart the part of the cable that was bolted to the engine area?
