Re: bees kill big dog In oklahoma
We got fire ants here in Queensland maybe 4-5yrs back. Came in a container. Somehow got moved from the warf storage area to a nursery/landscape yard and took up residence in pot plants, which were sold.
They have had a major baiting program, costing $millions, and it has pretty much worked. it was touch and go to get them before they reached uncontrolable numbers. Fingers still crossed of course.
I will not buy potting mixes from anyone that is not Certified with a proper QA program. (I get 18tons at a time).
Pay a lot more of course. Store all materials on a concrete pad and check at least once a week for any form of infestation.
As for the stinging bees. We have a nasty little wasp, that builds a small nest that hangs by a single thin "string". These guys give multiple stings, and attack in large numbers. They hurt. Got all my calf muscles stung once, and they were tight and sore for days.
When i discover a nest, load up the spray pack with inceticide, keep a mist in front of me as i walk toward the nest. They don't fly 1m before falling dead.
Could imagine something like a dog would not last long with these guys. Nasty.
Cheers
Phillip
