called my mechanic the other day (need mine looked at) and his diagnostic machine went out and it is $10k for a new one. He told me he will retire doing nothing but old two strokes. I'd guess hes only a few years younger than me so hope to havee him for a while longer and since i'm a current customer i'm hoping he keeps taking out stuff in even after retiring.

Likely a marking paint / goop so one can tell if the linkage has been molested.

I was thinking similar.
I've been looking closely at that there on other motors like mine because mine had a whole lot less thread showing, and mine was too retarded using static timing.

I live near the Walleye capital of the world around Lake Erie and we have many mechanics that gladly work on older two strokes. Not many dealers do, but they are way to expensive anyway. The bad news is these small two stroke mechanics are very busy as there are lots of these motors still running in this area. Not sure what year that motor is, but it would need to be in near perfect condition and run perfect to get that much money. Pics look good but operation is more critical. Two stroke fan here, just can't justify the expense of a new four stroke to save a couple gallons of gas when my two stroke runs perfect.

If the motor is as nice as the ad states it might be a decent buy especially due to the tiller and power trim. If you need that type of motor and are a two stroke fan like me, it might be a good buy.
