I know that this has been covered at some point, but searching is taking forever.
I have a '92 Mercruiser 3.0, and I need plugs for it. The NGK BPR6EFS seems to be the go-to plug, but I just got it back from the shop, and the motor says that it should be an AC-MR43T. Is the BPR6EFS the wrong plug? If so, what is a good NGK replacement? Can I use the NGK 7240 (YR55)? I have some laying around that I am wondering if I can use.

Thanks!

The 3.0L takes the MR43T (BR6FS), the 3.0LX takes the MR43LTS (BPR6EFS).
If you aren't sure which you have, post your engine Mercruiser serial number.

Don't use similar threads to find parts, going by year alone can get you into trouble.

This is the 3.0L, the serial # starts with 0D522.
I am starting to find out that there are a lot of different parts for the "same" engine, so it has been fun.
I have some NGK YR55 plugs from another vehicle that I was working on. The cross reference shows that they will work, but I'm concerned with heat ranges. I know that I can buy plugs, but if I already have them, I may as well use them.

Under no circumstance should you put that BPR6EFS in an L motor. That harmless little "P" stands for "projected".. as in.. they're longer than the BR6FS and you risk piston damage by running them.

The good news is they don't hit the piston if you put the wrong one in. It happens quite often.

No, you can't use the YR55 (one heat range too hot), the NGK number for your engine is BR6FS...

Ah well, 8 bucks isn't bad for plugs, looks like the NGKs will have to wait for something else to come along.

Okay, I have the right plugs installed, and put on a new cap and rotor. It runs GREAT!!!
Now, I am trying to find a decent deal on some plug wires, can anyone steer me in the right direction? Napa thought they had the right ones, but they were for the pre-HEI style. Other than that, most sets are 40-60 bucks.
