Hello, I need some advice on Bayliners. I looked at one this afternoon (New). Not a bad price for it as well. Any bad comments on this brand of boat.

Re: Bayliners?

I love bayliners There great boats. great Warranty extra extra... I own there sailboat type of boat.. a 78 Buccaneer 200. named fender Bender 2. They were great sailboats. But bayliner got sued from the Crysler yachts for using the buccaneer name. There power boats are great. for the first time buyer. if you want something fancy go with crown line ($$$) but once you are over 30 feet.. the bayliners are the best.. so if you are a first time boat owner get a Bayliner. If you are a secound time boat owner and want to spend ($$$$) money get a crown line. If you like big low cost hard working power boats get a bayliner!!!!!!!!!

I have never seen a brand of boat lower in quality than today's Bayliner line of boats.

Re: Bayliners?

Bayliner's are the worst boat probably ever manufactered. They are designed and marketed toward the unexperienced boater. From the outside they look good and come with tons of features for an extremely low price. However everything is made with the lowest grade materials. The hulls have the minimum fiberglass thickness for the power of the boat. In the right light you can actually see through the fiberglass in some areas. The floors are nitorious for rotting out. They always used to run Force outboats which were very unreliable. They now use Mercury classics which is quite a big step forward but you're still going to want to invest in a good set of ohrs. Good boats are going to cost some money. On average a 16th boat = $20K+ minimum and $5K for every 2ft larger you go. In the marine market if it sounds too good to be true IT IS!!

Re: Bayliners?

At a recent boat show, I saw the Bayliners lined up being offered by a very reputable dealer in our area. I took a look just out of curiousity and the boats looked good from afar but nearly every one of them had some sort of problem right off the showroom floor...walk-through windshields that didn't line up, broken seats, broken hinges on storage areas, etc...I understand that boats really take a beating at boat shows but when I looked at the Cobalts, Regals, Stingrays, etc., they seemed to be in much better condition after having the same show abuse.

For an entry model if cost is important, look at Stingray, Glastron, or Tahoe (Bass Pro Shops Line)...Not top of the line by any means but definately better quality for the money in my humble opinion.

By the way, just as a disclaimer, I've never owned any of these brands of boats but this is just what I know from being in boating for 20 years.

Jim
