Bayliner mini restoration project

I just picked up this old bayliner from my cousin who got too busy or too frustrated to finish it. He technically gave it away to me. The demolition has started already. The first thing I noticed is the tad soft deck above the gas tank. I can?t allow that to happen, right? Here comes the circular saw but wait! Let?s get rid of most of this resin so it doesn?t dull my blade. Grinding, Grinding. What you know?! Bayliner had the floor in section and the seam line was just there staring at me. I followed that line and shortly, the middle section of the floor above the gas tank was out. Well, I have no idea what bayliner people were smoking back then. Nothing protected at all underneath so you think they will at least fiberglass the heck out of the outer skin of the deck but no; just resin which was cracked of course and allowed water to seep under. The rot is not severe, the wood under the seats is sold and dry, only the middle section and the sections under the transom seats. The middle section of the deck was supported by a 2*2 inserted in some groves in the ply. The resin cracks in this area tell me that there was so much flexing in this area and as a result, the support was not enough. I am planning on building a truss of 2*2 either wood or never rot, I still need to make some test to decide on the ability of never rot to hold the load. The truss will be basically a ladder shape laid horizontally on the surface above the gas tank and supporting the deck on the other edge. I still have few technical points to decide on.
From what I read here, I know you guys like pictures. I promise these are coming soon. I just couldn?t wait to introduce myself and jump in. I don?t expect this to be a major project (oops style) but it is a decent size project anyway and I hope you guys can help me take the best decisions down the road.

BTW, Oops, if you are reading this, I want you to know that I spent most of my day yesterday reading your adventure thread. I kept saying ?man!! This guy got some guts?. I hope you are having fun with her now.

Dollar bills.

Yeah we're a little demanding in that area. Notice the lack of replied to your post? That's why. We're a fickle bunch :D

Good luck with your project!

Re: Bayliner mini restoration project

Bear,
This was a nice project and really professional work you did on that boat. Congratulations.
It could be a little vague by now or it can be late at night where I am but when I read your circuit diagrams for your dual battery management system, I can?t figure out why did you keep the dual battery switch (the red one with OFF-1-2-Both) in your system? The relay you inserted (the VSR) is suppose to automatically perform the same manual switching function of the dual switch. If you keep it in the circuit and set it to both, the two batteries will be connected in parallel. I am sure I am missing something since you had your work inspected but ? at least from what you described ? the role of this switch in the circuit is not clear. If you still remember the circuit, please let me know what was the role of this switch?

Thanks man!
