I have a 1999 Bayliner 1950 capri. It has a 3.0 mercruiser with a alpha 1 gen 2. I am wanting to change the 3.0 mercruiser and the outdrive with a v8 mercruiser and new outdrive. Will a v8 fit in the boat. Does anybody have any pro-tips for me that may make this a little easier? Any help would be appreciated!

I doubt bayliner offered it with a V8 but I bet they offered it with a V6. You should have the space. You will need to add mounts for the V8.

You need to do some measuring, I suspect it will fit but routine maintenance will be difficult.

measure where the mounts are and overall size. If your boat was offered with a V8 will fit pretty easy if not might be more difficult. i did a 4.3 to V8 swap in a sea ray that was factory offered with both v6 and v8 options engine bay and stringers were set up for it so no issue was drop in

also your best bet is to find a junk boat with a V8 with all the parts from pulleys to prop. You will need to many piece like exhaust wye pipe different drive ratio etc best to find a tear out

the SBC is about the same length as the 3.0
it is wider

you will need to get everything from pulley to prop and swap the entire longtail.

It will definitely fit. I know of a bowrider with a sb v8, the same model.
But because you have a 3.0 now. There are lots to change before it can be thrown in. The mounts for a start. The exhaust horns to the inner transom shield. The outdrive ratio too. Your 3.0 drive ratio will fast run out of pitch available on props off the shelf. Not great for it even if you did find a prop to suit. Best of luck though.

All great advice! Yea I know a guy that has a v8 mercruiser and the whole outdrive out of a junker boat. He sais it’s all there and the outdrive and motor definitely came off the same boat.

Excellent. Get practicing at the wonders of glassing in the new mounts…she’ll be a quick machine in no time

Also, if the engin swap goes good would it be possible to do a thru hull exhaust?
Possible for sure. But if you mean permanent straight thorough with no option to close and quieten. It can be an easy way to gather dirty looks from those who aren’t enamoured by such things.

Meh, my thru-hull exhaust doesn't bother me or any of my passengers at all, and I've never gotten any dirty looks. I am running the OEM mufflers that go between the elbow and transom, though.
