Hello,
I am considering buying a '85 Bayliner Capri 1400 with a (1976?) Mercury 700 70 hp engine and matching controls installed.
I have a few questions if anyone can help with advice.
1. Is this a good combination Hull/Motor ?(no max. hp tag on hull) The seller has the original Force 50HP engine and controls he claims has only 3 seasons on it. It looks brand new. he says he removed it because he got the Merc free from his son and the Force Idled too high, says motor and boat were in storage for 15 years without running till he got it. He replaced impeller and plugs before starting.
2. What is the Force worth ($) if it passes a compression test (How many PSI should it have?)
3. Anything in particular to look for on this combo? the floor is a bit soft behind the center seat about 1.5 square foot section, but the rest of the boat is in very good shape, I didn't see any stress cracks in the gel coat especially on the transome. The motor doesn't look too bad for it's age but very nice under the cover, are these prone to any problems or too much HP for this boat? The trailer is like new.
I know it's a lot of questions for my first thread but I like to be an educated consumer! Thanks in advance for your input, Tappan
