Bayliner 175 Engine Problem

Hi guys.

Im new to this forum. Can anyone help me. I have a Bayliner 175 with a 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha engine.

Boat has always run perfect. Until yesterday... When on startup I could not engage reverse and get the usual "clonk" on the engine. Then I tried to engage forward and the boat engaged but would not go into neutral after so I had to cut the engine with the key.

The remote seems stiff too in forward and reverse position.

Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.....

Sounds like the gear case may be full of water.

Hello and welcome to iboats.

First off, the 3.0L only puts out 135hp and the 4.3L 180hp.

Second, you posted this in the Mercury/Mariner Outboards forum. It belongs in the MerCruiser I/O forum.
