Battery Isolator

I have a battery Isolator that I would like to put on my new 2011 bass tracker. I would like to know if I can install a wire from the plus post to the Alt. pole on the Isolator and a wire from the #2 battery post on the Isolator to the #2 battery and a wire from the neg post on the #2 battery to the neg post of the start battery. Will this work without changing any wireing on the orig setup.

PLease, go on line to the site for the isolater brand you bought. They should have a diagram you can use there. Well, it should have also been in the box, of from the store sales people you got it from. It would be kinda hazardous to do electrical without a factory diagram, or a lot of experience.

thanks. I think I will just take it to bass pro and let them install it so I will not distroy anything. For now I will just use the trolling motor on the secound battery and charge with the home charger each trip. Thanks again.

You have to remove the output wire from the alternator and run it to the input to the isolator. Then you have seperate wires running fromn the outputs of the isolator to each battery.

Do yourself a favor, don't use an isolator and use an ACR instead. That way, you don't have to touch existing wiring and just run a small ground to the ACR and wire from the ACR to each battery. You don't get the voltage drop through an ACR like you do an isolator.

I use a battery isolator and love it but I have an I/O with a 3 wire alternator.

You do not say what kinda of motor you have.
If it is a Outboard with electric start then you have to do major rewiring to use a isolator.

First you have to seperate the charging system output from the starting system.

If you just put it in line with your positive wire to an outboard then you will not be able to start the motor because the diodes in the isolator will not allow current to your starter.

For outboards I agree a ACR or VSR works better than an isolator.
