I bought a 1999 Four Winns Horizon 170 from a widower, the boat had not batteries when purchased. I did figure out that it needed 2 batteries one for start one deep cycle. Question is which one goes to the rear and which one goes to the front. Thanks for any help.... MJ

Hi, Jenko- welcome to iboats-

First, do you have a battery switch to choose among Batt 1, Batt 2, Both and Off? If so you should be able to figure out what's what, either by physically tracing the wiring or hooking up a battery and testing continuity.

Second, IMO you don't need 2 different types of batteries. Buy a pair of 'hybrid' starting/deep cycle batteries and be done with it.

Third, you bought the boat without running the motor or doing a sea trial??

Here is a fairly common dual battery setup on boats.

John,

There is no battery switch for going from 1/2. Guess i should of posted first since i went and bought the batteries already. I got the boat from old family friends, the boat is good, but before he passed unexpectedly he pulled the batteries out and we couldn't find them anywhere.

Thanks for the help and advise.
