Re: Bass fishing in Clear Lake...what size line?
We use to crappie fish out in Petaluma way out off D' street, then the algae came up a couple of years back and they all started to die. Maybe 2-3 along the bank every 10-15 feet. It was aweful!! We pulled up once, got out of the car, got right back in, and left. One of the worst things I've ever smelled!! Really small crappie out there anyways. But, half of a small crappie on a poke pole with a 24 inch metal lead and a nice big hook will get you a ton of crawfish at spring lake or lake ralphine once they start coming up. Hasn't been as good this year by far as I got about 20 in a couple of hours, but last summer about mid July, I pulled out about 170-180 of them by myself in about 3 hours. Filled my 5 gallon bucket and went back 3 days later and got another 200+ with a buddy. Thanks for the advice and help with the lake and fishing. I yahoo mapped the dam and it says it's 40 minutes from the campsite. Not sure if we'll make it over there as I'm not driving, but I'll push for it. Taking off in about an hour and hopefully I'll have a few nice fish pics when I come home on Friday. Wish me luck
@Jigngrub: Thanks for the help with the rooster tails! I'll be sure to pick up some of the other colors like that green one. I'd love to hit a striper on one of those. Oh, and I wish you lived closer, lol. I love California and wouldn't leave for the world, but I'd visit Alabama if I had the money
I've never fished Cache Creek. I've worked around the main body and in and out of coves and docks and done very well. Clear Lake is well known as one of the premier Bass lakes in the world. It's also know for it's big CatFish and large Crappie population. You can also bow hunt Carp but if you wait until the algae bloom most of those just float to the top and stink like you can't believe....LOL.
