Actually the idle jets do not work only at idle they actually effect the acceleration of the motor. Those jets are very misunderstood absolutely effect how the motor accelerates. Here is why when you give it gas the only fuel being pulled through the carb is through that jet there needs to be enough fuel there until the vacuum of the crankcase catches up. There is a delay from the carb until the fuel is pulled into the crankcase. Anybody who disagrees try this evinrude 15 hp when you troll lean out the screw until it runs smooth then punch it will bog for that reason that . They act like an accelerator pump to make sure there is enough fuel in the airway to cover until the carb catches up. To say otherwise is because people do not understand how carbs work very commonly misunderstood. This is really prevalent in adjustable idle jets which is why when you set them turn them till they run good then back out 1/4 turn you need that to be a little rich.

might try drilling through the transom in a few spots around the bottom of the hull. Check for water. Sounds radical, but easily patched from outside with some epoxy or some 5200 sealant.

Took it out today this is what happend. I started off with medium acceleration then went full throttle the boat took a lil bit but did jump on plane bu its self. The rest of the day it nvr did until someone added a very small amount of weight more towards the front everytime they did that she ran perfectly.

Setting the idle on that engine is not easy. All 3 idle jets work in concert with each other to make a smooth idle. Turn one of them 1/4 turn, then wait for 30 seconds for the engine to normalize. The try another 1/4 turn. As soon as you think it's good to go, you need to do the other two carbs. You likely will find that you need to go thru them 2 or 3 times, waiting 30 seconds after each setting change. A prolonged procedure to set the idle-for sure.

I asked once before but unless I missed it in one of the comments, you didn't answer my question. So I looked it up. Your boat's capacity plate specifies a max HP of 90 HP. If the present '95 Johnson 70HP engine you have is at all weak, and the fact that it is old as well, I can understand your problems planning out with that engine now! Your hull, as well as the engine, are both 20 years old. So I suspect the engine is tired and certainly now putting out 70HP anymore. So between the old tired engine and the old hull that could have some water penetration, you are now at the pivotal point of planning. So either deal with it, or repower the hull with something newer and fresher. JMHO!

It planes by its self sometimes slow but it does and i think ur right on the idle jets. I dle it sounds way to low of an idle im going to mess with that

think gm280 lays it out, though. Either the motor needs work, or the boat does -- or both, of course. If the motor is operating well -- or reasonably well, I would hesitate with the fine tuning described above unless you are pretty sure you can make an improvement. But I definitely would make sure the hull weight isn't a problem. I believe you said you have a live well in the stern section. That might give you an access point to see if there is water down there under the floor. Probably easier to tweak the hull than the motor -- easier to troubleshoot, anyway.

A working tach will answer that....and other questions.
