I pulled the Quadrajet off of my '87 305 Mercruiser this evening for a rebuild to hopefully eliminate a stalling issue and one of the idle mixture screws was seized up in the baseplate. After dowsing it in liquid wrench and and then ultimately applying a little map gas heat, the head of the adjustment screw sheared off from trying to work it loose. Since it would be virtually impossible to drill and re-tap the hole due to the alignment with the hole in the throttle bore, I was wondering if the baseplate from an automotive Quadrajet would work as a replacement as long as all of the vaccum and emmision ports were eliminated. Another option would be a replacement marine carb baseplate (if available). Other than the sheared off idle mixture screw, the carb parts are in excellent shape and I hate to scrap it for a replacement unit. Any ideas or direction on this would be greatly appreciated.
