Using Quicken Premier 2011 and has worked well thru all the MS upgrades. The issue concerning me is for how much longer. Seems now everyone doesn't want to sell SW they only want to rent it. Several others out there but any have other recommendations?

My business is small enough to use basic excel worksheets and pivots. if i wanted to take the time i could ensure all transactions were classified correctly in USAA. 99% of our life is on credit cards and that is all captured in USAA. It would be a club rather than a precise tool.

I to like spreadsheets and use it for tracking taxes and my vacation rental. Use Quicken for the five bank accounts

I use Quicken … wife hit the “update” last year … now, unfortunately, I am renting it.

Much of the software industry has gone to subscription licensing instead of perpetual. A good way to determine the value of such is to compare the subscription cost over 5+ years with that cost of re-purchasing upgraded software every few years.

The advantage of subscription licensing is always having access to the latest versions, etc. The disadvantages would be compatibility with old computers.

Held off for a number of years, but finally gave up and went the "rental" route once the old version was more or less cut off from the rest of the world. I use too may of the on-line tools to live w/o.

Cost me a 1/3 of a draft beer per month for the convenience. Cost me more than that to have my personal CPA/Tax Account (daughter) do it for "free".......lol

I think there are free web based apps? Mint.com etc. I've been using kmymoney on Linux for many years. They have windows and Mac versions as well that I haven't tried. Downside is that the banks several years ago made it difficult/impossible to import account info automatically (I haven't tried to see if there's a solution to that yet) so you need to download and then import an .ofx file. Venmo only allows csv exports which is a bit of a pain. Upside is that it's completely free. It also allows you to assign categories based on tax status, so it's easy to generate a report of deductions at the end of the year.

Being completely retired my finances are fairly simple. Still running Quicken 2014 on a 32 bit machine with Windoze 10. I don't download data from any institutions and hand key in all entrys. Use 4 different banks and their software handles all transfers between accounts or payments. Trade stocks and treasuries over the internet. Wife dabbles in crypto on her Chromebook with the oldest boy's help as I don't understand the programs they use. A real PITA at tax time. He runs the business on a Mac with Quickbooks. Don't even know how to turn the darn thing on if I had to.

Keep an older 32 bit PC for storing backups that will dual boot both Windows and Linux. Both of my laptops run Linux but haven't found a decent program for finances and keep nothing personal on either one, just web browsing, e-mail and such. Too cheap and too old to update.

Been using Quicken for 30 years. I wasn’t happy when they went the subscription route, but I do download bank and stock info pretty much daily, so I’ve learned to accept it.
