Re: Baitcast reels, right or left?

Ok,I am lost in this discussion.
I am a lefty and always reel with my right hand.
Every reel I have ever purchased lets you change the sides of the reel.

Spinning reels, Bait casters, Closed face, you name it.

Are the more pricy reels in only left and right?

I only use a bait caster when I bass fish and that ain't to often.

Most spinning reels can be switched, But I don't know of any current bait casters that can be switched, I'm sure there must be some out there though.

Yeah, just the $1,000 saltwater reels. Otherwise I have not seen any that can change.

Re: Baitcast reels, right or left?

I love this stuff. When I started using baitcasters way back I had the traditional right hand crank. Never did like switching hands, cast right - switch - reel right. Most right handed people have stronger right arms. The strength & finess is needed on the rod, not the reel. And if you're fishing with a baitcaster and a spinner it just feels natural to reel & cast with the same hand on both.

When I bought my Calcutta TE DC I wanted a left. The sales guy wanted to argue & get me into a right hand. I told him I didn't want to reel with the opposite hand from my spinning reels. He tried to tell me most spinning reels crank right. No problem says I - show me one in your store. Guess he never thought about it and boy was he shocked when he looked around.

Got the TE DC (nothing better BTW) and my son was fishing with me. He wanted to try it but said he couldn't get used to reeling with the "wrong" hand. I simply stated that "you reel your spinning reel with your left hand" and HE wanted to argue. Sat there for 10 minutes looking at my baitcaster and then his spinner. Too funny!

And BTW -- palming with the right isn't a different balance than palming with the left.
