Bought a used proline. Has a non functional shurflow washdown/baitwell pump, also has a rule recirc pump in the baitwell, working. I suspect the rule pump as later addition after the other pump died.

I am new to using these. Do I need a baitwell pump, or should I stick with the recirc/aerator pump and just change the water from time to time?

How useful is it to have a baitwell/livewell pump, and should I spend the 150 bucks to put in a new one?

Thanks.

Both have benefits, but a recirculating pump can only do so much... what it doesn't do, is remove ammonia or other toxic buildup from (for lack of a better word) fish pee. While that won't matter while you're lightly stocked... a livewell full of fish can produce enough ammonia to kill them all off in just a few hours.

On the other hand, there are times when you don't want to be sucking in fresh water, like when you're in a section of contaminated water.

If I were in your shoes, I would splurge for it, but it's really up to you. Both ways will work.

The fill pump is needed more than the circulation pump. You can replace the pump for a lot less than $150.

The fill pump is used to fill the tank and when full allow overflow to a drain. On hot days this is how you keep the water cool and fresh. Only times it not a good idea is when you have salt water bait and run up a fresh water stream to get lunch or fuel. Most people put them on a timer so does not have to run constantly. One minute on and 5 minutes off will do the job most of the time.

How sure are you that it is the motor. Could it be a fuse or defectve switch or bad connection?
