bad powerpack?

I've done some research and haven't found much. Just swapped out power heads on my 87 johnson 30, used a 20hp with my new carb, intake and side cover. Took it out and it worked flawlessly. The next day I took it out and it was hard to start. Changed plugs and got it started after some tinkering. Would barely run, only on idle and kept stalling under load. then out of nowhere it went fine for a few minuets, then back to sputtering and popping. Barly limped back at idle speed. If i unplug the top plug it stalls. Unplug bottom it stays running. swapped plug wires and the same. swapped coil wires and plug wires and still same so the coils are both good and new. So my #2 cylinder wire from power pack is not working properly. I have spark, but it is misfiring i guess because it runs ok only on 1 cylinder and as soon as i plug in the #2 it starts misfiring and popping. Keyway is ok also. power pack or trigger or??

I'm just gonna order a power pack, are the aftermarket ones any good?

guess it wasn't the power pack. Bottom plug was a little wet with oil so i guess i thought it was gas. Lower cylinder is getting no gas at all, but gets a little wet, with oil or water? I tried swapping used reed valve plate in and that still didn't work. I know its not getting gas because i checked it with a torch. No poof. Would the carb direct the fuel only 1 way or are the reeds out of adjustment, bad?

Key in flywheel has been checked a few times and is good and compression has been checked a few Time's also steady at 118 per. Cyl. What are the chances both sets of reeds are bad? They look fine. Don't think it's a head gasket because it has good compression and nothing was "milky". I don't know

Bad plug, plug wire, or plug connection? Bad ground on lower coil?

Re: bad powerpack?

there are essentially only 3 fluids that would make a plug 'wet' .. water, oil, or gas. whether or not you're running pre-mix or running a VRO, there really isn't a way to get oil into the cylinder without fuel. so you either do have a limited amount of fuel entering the cylinder, or there's water getting in. whether that is from the head gasket, or condensation from the atmosphere, or some other reason that i'm not aware of, i'm not sure. does anyone know of another way to verify that there is no fuel entering a cylinder??

Spray some gas/oil mix into the carb throat and feel the difference.

It runs nice when the #2 cylinder is unplugged, as soon as I plug it in it starts popping out the exhaust at steady intervals. The plug is hot but still Not firing. I'm gonna try all new gaskets, maybe a leak at the intake, or side cover causing fuel starvation?

Re: bad powerpack?

the head gasket as well as the exhaust gaskets may be allowing water into that lower chamber...do you see any small beads on the plug head...does the top of the piston look "steam cleaned" as compared to the upper piston?
