Bad Gas

I have a Mercury 9.9 that uses an external 6 gal orange fuel caddy with siphon bulb and fuel line. Someone told me recently that I should refresh the gas in the tank if it has been in there for a long time. I typically use only 1-2 gal out on the water so some of the gas may be up to a year old. I use STAB and the correct oil mixture, just wondering what the shelf life on gas is in a hard plastic tank?

Thank you

Re: Bad Gas

If you're using the Stabil then you're mostly likely O.K., but if you have doubts about your gas, then it would only cost a few dollars to dump it, clean out your tank and start fresh.

If the old gas doesn't have any water in it, dump it in the family bus. Diluted it'll be fine. The oil won't hurt anything.
