Well we tried to outrun a squal comming off the beach yesterday, didn't quite make. We ran into about 40 mph winds about a mile out and then the rain hit as we were entering the harbor. Once at the dock the only spot avaliable was on the leaward side of a pier (not that the wind wasn't howling there either) with a boat on the windward side (to my port) in the same slip as we were. There are four ramps that are double wide so there is plenty room for loading two boats at a time per ramp. I told my wife with the wind blowing like it was we couldn't mess around or we would be blown against the boat on my port side. She's handeling the bow line and i'm supposed to get the stern line. Well the tide was out so I couldn't get the line over the top of the piling of the pier so I went to step up on the gunwale of the boat (remember it's raining sideways) don't know what happened but I lost my footing and my left foot slid down the stern of the boat until it stopped abruptly againts the cleat on the stern. I was bare footed (yea I know) and the end of the cleat impailed my foot just in front of my heel and didn't stop until it hit the bone. That right there hurt like a %^(&#$ %^&$@# and bled like a stuck hog. I couldn't walk on the injury so thankfully the guy loading next to me went and got my truck and loaded my boat for me. Well today i'm on crutches and just takin it easy.
I included the pic below so ya'll could see how the cleat is mounted to the stern. I'ts an eight inch cleat and the end that impailed my foot is about 7/16 (11mm) in diameter.
