Bad Day Yesterday............

Spent all Saturday morning at hospital with my sisters waiting to talk to a doctor about our mother.

Mamma fell and broke her hip the last week of August. She had surgery, a pin placed, recovered and went to a rehab center. Its been down hill since for her. She was sent to the hospital tuesday for a fever that wouldnt go away. She was found to have a couple different infections, A urinary tract and upper respiratory infections. She was given intraveinous antibiotics. She was released to hospice care yesterday afternoon and basically given couiple weeks to a month to live.

On the way home from the hospital I stopped by an elderly friend of mine that I use to work for to check on him since he'd been taking chemo for pancreatic cancer and had no family locally and found him dead around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. He'd been dead 2 or 3 days in a camper trailer with three elelctric heaters running on high for who knows how long.

11/16/13 will be a day that will be with me for a while.

I'm so sorry for your troubles ehendry. I suppose all there is to do now is to focus on your mom. I've worked with Hospice for years and I can tell you that while the medical issues may beyond your control, you can control how you spend the time you have with her. Make it count, or you will regret it. Oddly, circumstances like these often bring out the best in us, if we let them. If you have something you've wanted, or needed to say to her, now is the time. Above all, be honest with yourself. Life is too short for lies. If you're happy, laugh. If you're sad, cry. If you're tired, rest.

Its tough. My dad passed away 12 days ago and I'm still reeling from it.

Dang ef, that's a tough day. Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. Things will get better soon. Don't bottle everything up. Find a good listener and have a long chat. It does help.

my thoughts go out to you ehenry. some times life can be rough on us mortals.lost my best friend at 11 pm in june at 48 years old to pelvic cancer which had spread all over and my mom that night at 2 am to a massive brain hemorrhage who lasted up till then one week till the kids (grandchildren) came to say goodby.then the next day my aunt died.my mom pass at a local hospice called arch ,what a dignified and caring place to spend your last days.your mom is in the best of places to be for the last days my friend .god bless.

Ask hospice if it has a handout called "Crossing the Creek" by Michael Holmes. It helped.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. I've been busy all day today working with my friends daughter, Angie, from Fairbanks, AK that has come to take care of the final arraingements for her dad. I found out that I am the executor of his estate. He'd asked me a number of years ago if I would do it and told him that I would. I actually forgot since it'd been so long. I asked Angie if she had a copy of his will, if it had been witnessed, filed and such......She didnt know and had no copy.

I had taken most every thing of any value out of his trailer and brought it to my house along with a number of yellow legal pads and various other things. I started reading through the legal pads and found found, dated November 6, 2013, my friends last will and testament. I"ve no clue if it had been witnessed or anything. Its all hand written and only two pages long and it only mentions what to be done with bout 10 items and thats it. Angie and I are going to talk to my nephew, who is an attorney who specializes in estate law, how to proceed.
