Returned an 80lb trolling motor.
not because it did not work.
The problem was that the batteries were too heavy.
For a backup motor to be practicle it should weigh under 30lbs complete with fuel.

The Torqeedo is perfect and under 20 lbs but the price of that lion battery is outrageous.
Im actually going to check out a sail this weekend

I would say most places that do not allow gas are lakes,ponds and maybe a river. Tell you honestly you can pretty much get a kayak oar and row back and on the places where gas is allowed, a small 2.5-3.5 of 28lb would be just

I'm keeping my 45lb Minnkota as a backup to my 8hp merc. And you should keep your oars regardless, and longer oars can propel you faster, so consider upgrading to some lighter longer oars and you might not be as tired.
