Dear fellow Boaters,

My Mercruiser 5.0 from 2004 has some backslash on the powersteering, or steeringvalve. I guess the artikel is nr: 806034 A1

It as a backslash on the cilinder of around 3/8 of an inch. Is this an easy fix or is replacing the steeringvalve the best option?

Regards,
Swordfish

That tube the steering cable goes through does shuttle back and forth. That's how it works.

It shuttles back and forth, running or not. I never really measured it to see how much it moves, but it's a shuttle valve that controls the power steering.

Are you having problems or just noticed it moves?

Well, I'd noticed it. But the backslash of the steering unit gives the drive a free play of around 2-5 degrees orso. The play is also noticeable in the steering wheel itself. The wheel has a free movement of around 5-8 degrees (plus minus)

If you are expecting the boat to track like your car, for get it. They wander back and forth, they all do.
