After selling my big, new, Starcraft Islander I decided to go the el-cheapo route to get back on the water. Not because I'm cheap, but because I wanted less work and worry. Big boats are big work and I was always fretting about scuffing up my new boat.
Since 80% of the time I am by myself fishing I wanted something small, and I wanted a tinny outboard. Nothing over 50hp.
I found a nice older pre-scuffed Lowe 1605. At first it seemed like I should be towing it behind my Islander, but I'm used to it now. I've repaired a few things and gave it a good test run. I'm pretty happy with it. The aluminum flooring seems like a bonus in such an inexpensive boat. And the Johnson 40hp runs like a top. The only thing I'd like to do is replace the windshield which is cracked and has a "repair". But I doubt if I could find one anyway.
New F350 and a tiny tin boat...

I think my son feels a bit exposed in a boat like this.

And one of my friends was at his cottage. Pull up and dock. Easy as pie. No worrys about rubbing the dock. This is like a new freedom to me. Maybe I'm not a new boat guy. I like to beach and have shore lunches.

Nice looking Lowe, the parent company of Sea Nymph and they make some great boats! :thumb:

I couldn't decide, so I have a Chief for cruising and a 16' Sea Nymph for fishing.

That old "pre-scuffer" looks pretty good, ricoh. She's gonna be a good fishing machine and beacher.

Go bump some docks and get some fish blood on the deck!

When the army gives my youngest son his leave this summer, we have plans on fishing and shore lunches of fresh Walleye. He was disappointed to miss the initial shakedown cruise.
He really likes this little boat. I may give it to him eventually.

I have followed your rebuild. In fact, there is one with a 150hp yamaha not far from me. I keep thinking about it!
But I think he wants to much.

After checking out the link, I think the reason he's asking so much is that he's upside down in his boat.

Maybe he's Australian. :noidea: LOL

Ricoh - What brand of cap is on the pick-up. I like it. And don't give up on finding a windshield. I've seen a few like that on Ebay and Great Lakes Skipper.

Lakelover has a thread showing how he made himself a new windshield for his Jetstar. I'm sure you could make your own as well.

That certainly fits my style of boating! I recently picked up a 1984 Sea Nymph FM144 Pike Attacker for cheap that needed refitting. Will be using it while finish my Alumacraft Classic 16 and depending on how it goes I may keep it and sell the Classic. Much easier to use when by myself, not as young as I used to be.
You mention staying below a 50hp engine. Just so you are aware, that 40hp is actually a detuned 50hp. Same size and same weight. Though I don't believe you'd see much difference if there was a 50hp on it.

Again, nice score on that boat.

That cap is a Raider Nomad II. It was on my 2010 and I liked it so much its now on this 2015. Carpet liner and insulated with pop out screened windows. I sleep back there on occasion when its to wet to set up a tent.

Hey, Ricohman. Nice little boat. I am the buyer of your Starcraft Islander. I've been trying to upload some pictures for a week but couldn't figure out how. It always tells me "Invalid file data IMG_0001.JPG".

You should be able to upload now. You need to post 3 times to the forum before you can put photos on the server. Better still to link to a hosting service.
