After selling my big, new, Starcraft Islander I decided to go the el-cheapo route to get back on the water. Not because I'm cheap, but because I wanted less work and worry. Big boats are big work and I was always fretting about scuffing up my new boat.
Since 80% of the time I am by myself fishing I wanted something small, and I wanted a tinny outboard. Nothing over 50hp.
I found a nice older pre-scuffed Lowe 1605. At first it seemed like I should be towing it behind my Islander, but I'm used to it now. I've repaired a few things and gave it a good test run. I'm pretty happy with it. The aluminum flooring seems like a bonus in such an inexpensive boat. And the Johnson 40hp runs like a top. The only thing I'd like to do is replace the windshield which is cracked and has a "repair". But I doubt if I could find one anyway.
New F350 and a tiny tin boat...
I think my son feels a bit exposed in a boat like this.
And one of my friends was at his cottage. Pull up and dock. Easy as pie. No worrys about rubbing the dock. This is like a new freedom to me. Maybe I'm not a new boat guy. I like to beach and have shore lunches.
