I recently bought a 2007 Azure 188 Elite, yes it was terrible at getting on plane, porpoising, had the left lean. I swapped the 19" prop for a 21" prop and it completely transformed the boat. It now planes easily and quickly, the left lean that sometimes occurred when getting on plane and staying at WOT is gone. It's a completely different boat, whoever spec'd a 19" prop for that boat should be removed from the boat industry. Looking through forums many people report similar issues with boats of all makes, the solution most often seems to be put on a bigger prop. I researched why and it seems to me because a prop not only pushes you forward but also pushes you up, so a bigger prop helps plane in both cases. A smaller prop requires an inboard engine to rev faster which creates higher rotational force hence the left lean. As far as the engine not being able to handle it, well the 4.3 in my boat is still able to rev well past redline (4900) with the 21" prop, which is why I'm going to try a 4 blade 21". I am adding tabs - the bennet tabs because you can deactivate them when cruising smooth water, switch it on on for towing tubs, skiers, I no longer think they are a must have as I did when I had the 19" prop on, however I am frequently on the Potomac which has a lot of large boat traffic and anything to help smooth out the ride is appreciated.
