Re: Average number of miles you drive per year

I've never heard of a claim being denied for that, or of rates going up because they discovered you drove more than 12,000? Has anyone had this happened to them?
I had State Farm for auto, boat and home owners for 21 years at the time. They raised my auto rates by 20% after I refused to give them the mileage off my vehicles very year. I called my agent of 21 years to complain and was basically give them the info or pay the higher rate. I’m not a State Farm customer anymore.

Mine is the only car I have to give them the mileage on, the other cars are assigned to different drivers in the household and they don't get the discount. I've compared my rates several times with other company offers and so far, none have been able to beat them. I've been with SF for probably at least 20 years. Not to say I wouldn't jump ship if a better offer came along though.

That's sad, not much for customer loyality....so far I haven't had the problem, but if it comes up, well I'm only married to the wife, not the insurance company....will go to someone else in a heartbeat.

I was more upset with my agent than SF. You figure after 20 some years as a customer he would at least see if we couldn't swing a deal or something. Basically told me if I didn't like go elsewhere.

I took my business over to Erie. They matched my auto rates and bettered my Homeowners coverage by a good bit for the same price. My new agent even sends me a birthday card ever year :)

Re: Average number of miles you drive per year

that the national average of miles driven is 12,000/year...
What do you think?

That's about right. Per vehicle. Cause there are many that drive WAY more than that. But then there are guys like me who put only that many miles on 2 cars in a year.
