I have a an auto bilge pump in my first season boat. Have a small amount of water in there from when i was draining the water tank. I was just wondering, how much water will usually accumlate before the pump kicks on? I probably have an inch or so now, but now sure when the float will activate it, or if it really works?

Re: Auto bilge pump

Simple way to find out if it has an external float switch is to pull up on the switch and listen for the pump to activate. Make sure you have everything else turned off in the boat that way you'll know it would work if you weren't there. If it's an internal switch I guess you would have to get a garden hose, stick it in your bilge....
