I am currently in Australia and have not been able to get to iboats since the 10th. Although I have found that life does indeed go on, I have missed the place

Anyway, something Aldo said got me to thinking and I have found a workaround for those that use a VPN with a non-Australasian IP addy. If you go to "properties" on your VPN connection, then Networking tab, then highlight TC/ICP, Properties, Advanced, then check the Use Default Gateway box it causes Internet Explorer to route through the VPN. A little slow, but it definitely works for me.

Aldo and I got together yesterday for a few hours.

I did, in fact, type Australasian correctly as the eclipse is both Oceania and much of Asia if I understand correctly . . . ;)

Oh, pulling an alden. OK. You always have your own interpretation of the facts. I guess the fact that I know of Australian members and do not know of "Asian" members. that is to say residents of the Asian theater threw me. Does it look like there will be a closer relationship with Aldo?

Ok, this is weird... If I connect to the Internet thru YBB (Yahoo broad band, ADSL) I can NOT get on iboats, but I have no problem getting on The Hull Truth boating forums, etc. But if I switch from the YBB WAN to a wireless/radio plug-n-play WAN card that access the internet via a cell phone type connection, I can get onto iboats as well as The Hull Truth forums, etc.

How is accessing iboats thru the telephone company any different than accessing iboats thru, well, the same telephone company? YBB uses a regular phone line. Both technologies are going thru the same local telephone company (NTT) office.

Btw, with YBB I downloaded more than 42mb of data from a server in the US in less than 60-secs. I kind of like it. Never got close to that performance from the DSL in my home in California.

Your cell phone account & yahoo use different proxy addresses. iboats is blocking a certain range of addresses. Your cell phone account must be outside that range.

Yes, it can make the upload/download speed much faster. I have a list of hundreds of anonymous addresses - some of which slow me down to dialup speed and other speed me up to warp 9.

Aldo, is there a proxy address I can use to access iboats from Japan?

I think I figured out the wireless WAN vs. YBB thing. With the radio wireless WAN I also setup a VPN to a stateside server, so I am actually accessing iboats via Chicago, not Japan...I think. I do not have the option of the VPN thru YBB.

Aldo directed me here:

Proxy 4 Free

He had a rule of thumb like the prefix had to be below 200 or above 220 . . . I wouldn't swear to it, but that range appeared to guarantee that you were out of the blocked regions.

Go to page five of that link and look for 'recently checked' addys.

Don't use 'highly anonymous', it will shut down some uploads.
